Mintz Attorney Randy K. Jones Receives Earl B. Gilliam Bar Foundation Legal Trailblazer Award

Randy K. Jones, a Member of the Litigation Section of Mintz, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., received the 2015 Legal Trailblazer Award from the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Foundation. Mr. Jones was recognized at the Foundation’s 39th Annual Awards and Scholarship Dinner on Saturday, November 7.

The Earl B. Gilliam Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is dedicated to providing support for diversifying the legal community, mentoring African American law students and supporting African American attorneys in their professional development.

Mr. Jones specializes in complex commercial and business litigation, government investigations, corporate compliance, and white collar defense matters.  He represents public and private companies of all sizes and high-profile individuals in state and federal investigations, and handling high-stakes litigation matters requiring top-caliber trial counsel. Prior to joining Mintz, Mr. Jones served in the Department of Justice (DOJ) as an Assistant US Attorney for more than 28 years.

Mr. Jones is a distinguished leader outside the courtroom as well, holding board and director positions with several civic organizations in the San Diego community and nationally. Mr. Jones is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law and is a trustee of the Francis Parker School in San Diego. He previously served as the President of the 65,000-member National Bar Association, Chairman of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association and as the President of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association in San Diego. He also held leadership roles with the San Diego Food Bank, the YMCA of San Diego County, the San Diego Chapter of the NAACP and the San Diego Crime Victims Fund, among other service organizations.

Mr. Jones holds a J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill. He also earned a B.A. in Political Science from UNC. He was honored by the university's General Alumni Association in 1998 with the Distinguished Young Alumni Award, and again in 2012 with the Distinguished Service Medal. He has received numerous recognitions during his career, including honors from Ebony magazine, California Lawyer, San Diego Magazine and the San Diego County Bar Association.
