Jeremy Spector will moderate the panel session, "Will the Historical Approach of Exempting Interest on Municipal Bonds be Radically Changed by the New Congress?" at the 2013 Midyear Meeting presented by the ABA Section of Taxation.

This panel will feature a discussion on tax reform with Professor John Buckley, former Chief Democratic Tax Counsel, U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, Vicky Tsilas, Attorney-Advisor, Office of Tax Policy, Department of Treasury Treasury Department, and Michael Decker, Managing Director and Co-Head of Municipal Securities Division of SIFMA.

Topics will include: (i) the pressures on Congress to undertake significant tax reform in 2013-2014; (ii) the path tax reform will likely take (revenue raising, lower tax rates, revenue neutral, etc.) (iii) the likely tax treatment of tax-exempt and other tax-advantaged bonds in comprehensive tax reform, and the likely market reception of this treatment, and (iv) the projected timeline for tax reform.
