Paul D. Wilson, a Member in the Litigation Section in the Boston office, will speak at a continuing legal education program at Suffolk Law School in Boston on Friday, September 5. This program, entitled "A New Look at an Old 40B," brings together experts on Chapter 40B, the Massachusetts affordable housing statute, to discuss the seven cases decided in 2008 by the state's highest court concerning both the statute (several of which Mintz Levin was involved in, and one of which Mr. Wilson argued) and the newly updated regulations.
This seminar was partly inspired by Mr. Wilson's op-ed piece in The Boston Globe earlier this year about the upcoming changes in Massachusetts housing law. Panelists for this event include the Chief Counsel of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, the Chairman of the Housing Appeals Committee (the administrative agency that hears appeals when a town denies an application to build affordable housing), and, at Mr. Wilson's suggestion, the lawyer who wrote the statute nearly 40 years ago.
