Boston, MA – Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. today announced that Susan M. Finegan has been selected as a recipient of the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly second annual "Women of Justice" award. The award celebrates women who have made great strides in the fields of law, justice and advocacy. Sponsored by the publication, in partnership with the Women's Bar Association and the Massachusetts Association of Women Lawyers, the recipients will be honored at a luncheon on December 4th at the InterContinental Hotel in Boston.
Ms. Finegan is the Chair of the firm's Pro Bono Committee and a Member in the Litigation Practice. In this full-time role she is responsible for managing the firm’s national pro bono efforts, and currently oversees over 400 pro bono matters. Under Ms. Finegan's leadership, the firm was recognized by American Lawyer as one of the "2009 Top 100" firms in the country for pro bono. In addition, Mintz Levin has received awards for its pro bono leadership by a host of Massachusetts organizations, including the Boston Bar Association, Lawyers Clearinghouse on Affordable Housing and Homelessness, the Elizabeth Stone House, the Medical-Legal Partnership and the Standing Committee on Pro Bono Publico Legal Services.

Prior to returning to Mintz Levin to assume the role of Pro Bono Chair in 2007, Ms. Finegan served as Legal Director for the Victim Rights Law Center, overseeing the expansion of civil legal services to over 300 survivors of sexual assault annually throughout Massachusetts. She also provided training and technical assistance to federally funded legal services programs nationwide. In addition, she served as the Center's Interim Executive Director in 2005. Ms. Finegan was an associate with Mintz Levin from 1993-2004 and then a member, receiving the firm's annual Pro Bono Award in 1998 and a Special Recognition Award for Distinguished Service and Significant Contributions to the Pro Bono Program in 2003.
Ms. Finegan serves on the Board of Directors of the Women's Bar Foundation, is the Co-Chair of the Boston Bar Association (BBA) Delivery of Legal Services Section, a member of the BBA's Task Force on Civil Right to Counsel, and the Gender Equality Advisory Board for the Massachusetts Trial Court. She is actively involved in Dartmouth College alumni affairs, including her role as Chair of the Committee on Trustees, and a member of the Board of Overseers of the Rockefeller Center.
She received her B.A. from Dartmouth College and her J.D. from Boston College, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Boston College Third World Law Journal.
