Mintz Levin To Receive Boston Area Rape Crisis Center “Champion For Change” Award

10/19/2010

Boston, MA – Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky, and Popeo, P.C. will be the recipient of the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) 2010 Champion for Change award at the BARCC annual Champions for Change Gala and Auction on October 28th.

Mintz Levin is being recognized for its work on behalf of survivors of sexual assault. In particular, BARCC is honoring the firm for its pro bono work on the passage of a landmark sexual assault, stalking and harassment bill that was signed into law in February of this year by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.

In addition to its work on behalf of the stalking and harassment legislation, the firm is being honored for its pro bono work on behalf of BARCC, which provides 24-hour free medical, counseling and legal services to Boston-area rape and sexual assault victims. This year marked the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Mintz Levin’s Domestic Violence Project, its signature pro bono effort aimed at eradicating domestic violence and sexual assault.

“Mintz Levin’s legal counsel has been invaluable to BARCC as an organization.  The firm has provided pro bono legal assistance to protect the rights of individual BARCC clients time and time again,” said Gina Scaramella, BARCC’s Executive Director. “They are highly deserving of this award for their exceptional and enduring contributions to the fight against sexual violence.”

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by an organization like BARCC that has been on the front-lines for more than 30 years, making a real difference in the lives of those affected by sexual assault,”  said Susan M. Finegan, a Member and Chair of Mintz Levin’s Pro Bono Committee.
