Boston, MA – Wynter Lavier, an Associate in Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.’s Litigation Practice and part of the Securities Litigation and White Collar Defense Practice Groups, has been named to the Board of Directors of the International Institute of New England.
For nearly a century, the International Institute of New England has assisted immigrants, refugees, and other vulnerable populations. The Institute’s mission is to help refugees and immigrants become active participants in the social, political, and economic richness of American life. With site offices in Boston, Lowell, and Manchester, New Hampshire, the organization assisted families from 30 different countries in 2010.
An Associate in the firm’s Boston office, Ms. Lavier has represented clients in a variety of litigation matters including complex business disputes and white collar criminal defense. She maintains an active pro bono practice in the area of asylum law, and has represented numerous clients seeking political asylum before the Boston Immigration Court. Her recent clients include political asylees from Columbia, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Haiti.
Ms. Lavier is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Ms. Lavier earned her J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law and her B.A. summa cum laude, from Roger Williams University. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Boston Bar Association, and the United Way Emerging Leaders.
