Healthcare News Recognizes Thomas S. Crane and Mintz Levin's Health Practice as Among National Leaders

Boston, MA - Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. today announced that Thomas S. Crane, a member in the firm's Health Practice and Co-Coordinator of its Health Care Fraud and Abuse and Corporate Compliance practice group, was named one of twelve outstanding fraud and compliance lawyers nation-wide.  The special report compiled by Nightingale's Healthcare News in its April/May 2004 issue also recognizes Mintz Levin's Health Practice as among the nation's largest healthcare law practices. 

Mr. Crane provides comprehensive fraud and abuse services to clients, from defense to compliance advice to compliance programs. His work in defending clients against false claims, whistleblower and anti-kickback allegations includes internal investigations, voluntary disclosures, negotiating settlements and Corporate Integrity Agreements (CIA's). He has appeared before numerous offices of U.S. Attorneys, the FBI and OIG around the country. He also provides compliance advice to national and local clients in structuring complex transactions to comply with the anti-kickback and Stark fraud and abuse laws as well as the variety of regulatory requirements that must be met. Mr. Crane's clients include hospital systems, clinical laboratories, pharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmacy benefit management companies, physicians groups, renal dialysis providers, supply companies, home care providers, as well as national trade groups, including the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, and the Federation of American Hospitals.

Mr. Crane serves as a member of the Advisory Board of Health Care Fraud Report published by the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc.  He has also served in leadership positions with the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), the largest organization of health care attorneys in the country. He was the founding Chairman of AHLA's Fraud and Abuse, Self-Referrals and False Claims Committee, and a member of the Program Committee of AHLA's annual Fraud and Abuse and Compliance Seminar.
 
Mr. Crane received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College (1972), a masters degree in health administration from the University of Michigan (1976), and his law degree from Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C. (1983).
