Nimesh M. Patel Appointed to District of Columbia Commission on Human Rights

Washington, D.C. - Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. today announced that Nimesh M. Patel, an attorney in the firm's Washington, D.C. office, was appointed to serve as a Commissioner on the District of Columbia Commission on Human Rights.
Comprised of fifteen members who are nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council, the District of Columbia Commission on Human Rights enforces the District's Human Rights Act and adjudicates private sector complaints to ensure that every individual in Washington, D.C. is afforded equality of opportunity without unlawful discrimination. Other responsibilities include recommending programs, legislation, orders and regulations, conducting hearings and rendering final decisions and orders on complaints of discrimination certified by the Office of Human Rights for hearing and issuing an annual report.
As part of Mintz Levin's Employment, Labor and Benefits Section, Mr. Patel's practice focuses on diversity and legal vulnerability assessments for large corporations and government agencies. Mr. Patel also assists clients on a range of federal and state employment laws and regulations, as well as other employment related matters.
Throughout his career, Mr. Patel has had extensive experience handling diversity-related issues. He received his B.S. from Michigan State University where he was awarded the MSU Excellence in Diversity Award given to one out of 42,000 students for outstanding leadership in enhancing cultural understanding. He received his J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and his M.B.A. with the Dean's Award of Distinction from The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
Mr. Patel also currently serves as the Vice President of Communications for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) and served as the President of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the Greater Washington, D.C. area (APABA-DC) from 2000-2001.
