Three members in Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.'s San Diego office have been named "Top Attorneys" by the San Diego Daily Transcript. James Cleary and Carl Kukkonen, members in the Intellectual Property section, and Lance Kurata, a member in the Business and Finance section, were selected as "top attorneys" in the Intellectual Property transactional category.
The list of San Diego County's top attorneys is the culmination of a lengthy peer voting process in which attorneys were asked to nominate and then vote upon the "best and brightest" in the region's legal arena.
James Cleary is a member in the San Diego office, practicing in the Intellectual Property section. His practice is focused on patent law, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications, rendering of opinions on infringement and validity, licensing, due diligence investigations, and client counseling, with an emphasis on electrical, telecommunications, software, and mechanical technologies. Mr. Cleary was also recognized as a San Diego Daily Transcript Top Attorney in 2006. He received his B.S. from the United States Air Force Academy (1989), his M.B.A. from Chapman University (1992), and his J.D. from University of California, Davis (1997).
Carl Kukkonen is a member in the San Diego office, practicing in the Intellectual Property section and is Chair of the San Diego Office Hiring Committee. His practice focuses on strategic intellectual property counseling including advice on patent infringement and validity, preparation and prosecution of patent applications, licensing, and due diligence studies. He also regularly counsels emerging growth companies on issues ranging from entity formation and governance to venture capital financings. Mr. Kukkonen has been recognized twice previously as a San Diego Daily Transcript Top Attorney. He received his B.S. from Harvey Mudd College, and his J.D., with honors, from George Washington University.
Lance Kurata is a member in the San Diego office, practicing in the Business and Finance section. His practice is focused on intellectual property and technology licensing, strategic alliances, and joint ventures. Mr. Kurata's experience includes serving public and private companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, software, hardware, telecommunications and electronic commerce industries. He received his B.A., cum laude, from the University of California at Los Angeles (1992) and his J.D. from Stanford Law School (1996). While studying at Stanford Law School, he was an editor of the Stanford Law Review.
