| 2008 |
In the February edition of Mintz Levin’s Energy and Clean Tech Connections, we’ve gathered recent information from a wide variety of sources in an effort to keep you abreast of what’s new in the world of clean tech. We draw your attention to the latest industry developments, news from Capitol Hill, grant opportunities, and upcoming events. Mintz Levin is proud to be recently ranked by IPO Vital Signs among the top 20 law firms in the United States in 2007 for representing businesses and underwriters in initial public offerings (more info). The Energy and Clean Tech Practice Group remains committed to utilizing this expertise with companies developing renewable energies and sustainable living.
Additionally, Mintz Levin was pleased to co-sponsor a Clean Energy Technology breakfast forum at the CERA Energy Conference (CERAWEEK 2008) in Houston last week (more info). This well attended forum featured entrepreneurial companies actively developing exciting technologies that will reshape the energy future. CERAWEEK brought together national and international leaders from the oil, gas and power industries, including a host of outstanding emerging energy and technology companies. The conference created numerous opportunities to network, and to develop and enhance funding/investing and collaborative partnerships. Mintz Levin looks forward to participating in future conferences. Keep it on your calendars for next year (February 9–13)!
We would also like to remind you of an exciting mentoring opportunity with the Ignite Clean Energy Business Presentation Competition beginning this March. Please see the Events section of this newsletter to learn how to get involved. We hope you enjoy this month’s edition.

Grants
The Renewable Fuels Foundation Offering
Its First Grants for Ethanol Production
The Renewable Fuels Foundation (RFF) Board of Directors funds those research projects that have clear goals and measurable outcomes with benchmarks that will advance the science of ethanol production. While sound research should be the basis for all grant applications, the RFF will only support projects that directly enhance domestic production of ethanol and the efficient use of co-products. One grant will be awarded for $150,000, of which $75,000 will be made available over two years. Viable projects may qualify for continued funding past this time frame.
Research project proposals must have a national implication, not local. The RFF prefers to fund national model projects, thereby making a bigger impact to the U.S. ethanol market.
