FCC Regulation of Wireless Communications System: An Update for Hotel and Gaming Venues

Presented by Russell H. Fox

Most Las Vegas hotel and gaming properties use radio systems and other telecommunications facilities in support of their operations, and these systems are generally licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Although these licenses are sometimes routinely secured by telecommunications, IT or security managers, there is a strong need for oversight by in-house counsel who understand the relevant obligations and potential enforcement actions that these federal authorizations engender.

Our presentation will cover:

  • The basics of FCC regulation (from spectrum use to typical system architecture)
  • Important issues for private users (including assignments and transfers, licensing and recommendations for avoiding FCC enforcement actions)
  • Current topics in wireless regulation (from “narrowbanding” to wireless microphones and regulation of commercial carriers)
