In February’s edition of Energy and Clean Tech Connections, we’ve gathered recent information from a wide variety of sources in an effort to keep you abreast of what’s new in the world of clean energy. We draw your attention to the latest industry developments, news from local governments to Capitol Hill, grant opportunities, and upcoming events. This month, the Energy and Clean Technology Practice Group would like to congratulate ML Strategies clients Dow Corning, Konarka Technologies, and Suniva, all of whom received multi-million-dollar awards as part of the Recovery Act Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits Program. President Obama announced the recipients of the credits in a ceremony last month at the White House, with awards totaling $2.3 billion. The Energy and Clean Technology Practice Group would also like to congratulate clients Ember and PurposeEnergy. Wireless technology-maker Ember announced last month that it had received $5 million in venture debt financing from Wellington Financial LP, capital which it will use to grow its business. Meanwhile, construction of PurposeEnergy’s pilot biogas facility is under way at the Magic Hat Brewery in South Burlington, Vermont. PurposeEnergy uses anaerobic digestion to turn the byproducts from brewing into renewable fuels. Last week, BP and ConocoPhilips announced that they will leave the lobbying group US Climate Action Partnership (US CAP), which has been promoting climate change legislation that includes a universal carbon cap-and-trade system. The announcement of their departure, along with mining equipment manufacturer Caterpillar, casts fresh doubt on the prospect of climate change legislation passing the U.S. Senate.
