Susan is a member in the firm's Washington, D.C. office and manages the firm's trademark practice. Her practice involves all aspects of intellectual property and related corporate business transactions, with a particular emphasis on domestic and international trademark and copyright searching, prosecution, enforcement, counseling, and litigation.

She specializes in trademark, copyright, domain name, trade dress, and related areas of Internet, e-commerce, unfair competition, customs, and advertising law, as well as intellectual property administrative litigation proceedings before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) proceedings, and federal civil litigation. Her practice also encompasses intellectual property licensing, trade secrets, establishing corporate intellectual property programs, and conducting corporate audits and domestic and international due diligence investigations.

Susan has authored and contributed to numerous intellectual property books and publications and has served as an intellectual property commentator on Court TV, in the Wall Street Journal and in other national and regional publications. She frequently presents and lectures on all aspects of intellectual property. Susan has guest lectured at Georgetown University and the University of Maryland on IP issues, and has been a regular faculty panel member on the live, national broadcast of PLI's annual program "Intellectual Property Issues in Structuring Deals & Drafting Agreements," and its annual "MCLE Marathon" program. Susan has chaired and served on the faculty of various other seminars held throughout the country including "Advanced Multinational IP Licensing," Intellectual Property Impacts on e-Business," "Doing Business Online," "E-Commerce in the Heart of Techtopia," "Information Technology Law,"  "Licensing Agreements: How to Draft and Enforce Them." Most recently, she was a speaker for the 2009 seminar "Shopping for Answers: Strategies for Retailers in a Distressed Environment," and also served as a speaker and moderated panels for the International Trademark Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association on due diligence and declaratory judgment actions. She moderated a panel in January 2010 at the AIPLA Mid-Winter Institute on "Leveraging Your Intellectual Property Assets.” Susan serves and has served on the Advisory Boards for the World Intellectual Property Report and the World Internet Law Report, and  has advised on content for the World Data Protection Report and the World e-Commerce and IP Report.

Susan has been active for many years in the International Trademark Association, has served on numerous INTA Committees and Task Forces, and was an editor for The Trademark Reporter. In addition, she is a member of and participates in the intellectual property activities of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Bar Association, the New York Intellectual Property Law Association, and the D.C. and Virginia Bar Associations. She has served on several committees of The Technology Council of Maryland, currently working on the Marketing Committee.

Susan was named a Washington, D.C. Super Lawyer in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. In addition, she was selected as a 2006 Virginia Super Lawyer. She was named to “Who’s Who Legal USA: Trademarks 2006” and the 2006 Edition of “The United Who’s Who Registry.” In recognition of her excellence in the field, Susan has been included in the multiple editions of the Guide to the World’s Leading Trade Mark Law Practitioners. She also been named to Biltmore’s “2009 Edition of Who’s Who Among Executives and Professional Women.” She has been awarded an "AV" rating by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest rating available, which indicates preeminent legal ability and very high ethical standards, as determined by opinions submitted by members of the Bar.

She is admitted to practice in Colorado and the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. District Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She is admitted to practice under associate status in Virginia and has also been admitted pro hac vice before numerous other state and federal courts throughout the country. Susan received her B.A., cum laude, with a triple major and Special General Honors Distinction for her participation in the Honors Program, from the University of Miami (1978) and was awarded her J.D. from the National Law Center at George Washington University (1981), where she was a member of the American Bar Association's Young Lawyers' Division. Susan is an active intellectual property mentor for George Washington University law students.
