Jonathan is of counsel in the firm’s Boston office, where he practices in the Real Estate Section. He advises investment funds, merchant builders, corporations, lenders, and real estate entrepreneurs on all aspects of real estate acquisitions and sales, financing, development, leasing, and management. 

Jonathan has worked on acquisitions and dispositions of a wide range of industrial facilities, multifamily properties, and office buildings. His work for developers includes the acquisition of both raw land and “brownfield” re-development sites. He also has represented landowners in the sale and long-term lease of land, including joint ventures and other strategic partnerships with developers.

Jonathan is an expert on land entitlement strategies and has substantial experience advising developers under Chapter 40B, the state’s “comprehensive permit” law, having been involved in projects totaling more than 2,000 units of 40B housing since joining Mintz Levin. He also advises clients seeking zoning relief and other development approvals under the federal Clean Water Act, the Wetlands Protection Act, the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act, and Chapter 91, the Massachusetts law governing development on filled and flowed tidelands. Jonathan regularly represents clients before municipal boards and commissions. 

Jonathan has helped several companies obtain tax increment financing and other benefits available under the state Economic Development Incentives Program in connection with the development of new manufacturing facilities.

Jonathan’s current pro bono activities include representation of The Greater Boston Food Bank in connection with its planned development of new warehouse and office space, and representation of non-profit entities involved in the preservation of natural and historic resources and enhancement of urban green space.

Jonathan has been named a Massachusetts “Rising Star” in real estate law in each of the past two years by the publishers of Boston magazine. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, and is a member of the Massachusetts Real Estate Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association. Jonathan received his A.B., cum laude, from Brown University (1993); a masters degree in natural resource economics from Duke University, Nicholas School of the Environment (1998); and his J.D. from Duke University School of Law (1998), where he was an Article Editor for the Duke Law Journal and a Contributions Editor for the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Forum.
