Insurance and Banking Regulation

Mintz Levin attorneys are familiar with banking regulations in all of the New England states, as well as those in New York and New Jersey, in addition to Federal regulations of the Office of Thrift Supervision, Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. One of our attorneys sat on the law revision commission for the most recent redrafting of Connecticut's banking laws, another was general counsel to a New York bank for several years in the mid 1990s, and another has been a member of the New York State Banking Board for seven years.

As part of our insurance practice, we advise clients on regulatory issues in the property and casualty and workers' compensation arenas, including underwriting and marketing, claims handling, agency licensing/ termination and ratemaking. With our unique experience in the heavily regulated Massachusetts insurance environment, we assist national and local carriers in planning and strategic decision-making in order to gain necessary approvals. We represent companies before administrative agencies when disputes do develop, and we stay current on legal and political factors that influence decisions. We also regularly advise national and local carriers with respect to regulatory issues around the country, including renewals, non-renewals and market withdrawals.
