Practices

International

Mintz Levin handles a wide range of international legal matters for clients based in the U.S. and around the globe. Working from each of the firm’s eight locations, attorneys in our International practice represent clients in U.S. and international financings, corporate transactions, litigation proceedings, intellectual property issues, real estate transactions, taxation issues, and employment and immigration matters.

The firm is recognized for excellence in the provision of international advice and counsel to clients in industries as diverse as energy and clean technology, shipping and logistics, transportation, life sciences, health care, real estate, retail and consumer products, telecommunications and media, hotel services, and computer hardware, software, and services.

Conducting transactions spanning the globe, we have represented U.S. clients with interests abroad as well as clients from Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America who have concerns in the U.S. Having successfully served international clients for decades, our attorneys are familiar with the nuances of doing business outside of the U.S. and representing overseas companies doing business in the U.S.

We are experienced at explaining the expectations and requirements of U.S. investors to overseas clients and counsel, hearing how matters are conducted and regulated in a particular country or countries, and developing a solution synthesizing the sometimes conflicting regulatory issues and customs of the participants. We possess an understanding and respect for different cultures, languages, and business approaches.

Working with Clients from across the Globe

We help clients from outside the U.S. achieve their business objectives by advising these businesses and their local counsel on a number of matters pertaining to doing business in the U.S., including:

  • How to access U.S. capital markets in a number of ways, including becoming a U.S. public company;
  • Acquiring U.S.- based companies or assets;
  • Establishing U.S.-based offices and strategic alliances, partnerships, and marketing arrangements with U.S. partners;
  • Navigating issues relating to foreign ownership laws, immigration, and taxation;
  • Explaining the sometimes complex employment laws and other regulatory issues that affect our overseas clients in their U.S. operations;
  • Protecting our clients’ intellectual property in the U.S.; and, where necessary,
  • Litigating to defend our clients’ interests.

Advising U.S. Clients

For U.S. clients, the attorneys in Mintz Levin’s International practice utilize an international network of relationships and counsel to coordinate complex international transactions that frequently involve multiple countries. We regularly coordinate with local counsel and regulators to help our clients:
