David joined the patent profession in 2000 and Mintz Levin in 2012, having previously qualified as a European and Chartered Patent Attorney with another major London firm. He has considerable experience advising a diverse range of clients from start-ups to multinational corporations, enabling him to tailor his service to the needs of a particular client. David prides himself on delivering advice in a straightforward and pragmatic manner and in looking beyond the legal and technical aspects to assist his clients with commercially relevant strategies for protecting and exploiting their intellectual property.

His practice covers all aspects of patents. Alongside drafting and prosecution of patent applications, he has a wealth of experience in European Patent Office (EPO) opposition proceedings. He has attended numerous hearings at the EPO for examination and opposition cases (both at first instance and appeal) as well as at the UK’s Intellectual Property Office. He also conducts due diligence investigations to support asset transfers and advises on matters of infringement and validity, including freedom-to-operate investigations.

David works in the mechanical, electrical, and software fields including technologies such as banknote processing, document handling machinery, product handling and packaging, food packaging, optics, medical devices, drug delivery, telecommunications (especially mobile telecommunications), outdoor advertising, LED lighting, semiconductor fabrication, circuit design for integrated circuits, audio signal processing, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), switched mode power supplies, computer networking, and relational databases.

Before becoming a patent attorney, David worked for several years in the engineering sector for companies including Racal, Sony, and Texas Instruments. In these positions, he gained hands-on experience in analogue and digital signal processing for seismic and infra-red sensors, embedded processor design, military communications, credit card and smart card terminal design, digital TV design, and design and behavioral modeling of digital signal processors.
