Jack’s practice in intellectual property litigation focuses on complex patent, trademark, and copyright cases.

Jack’s clients range from established companies to start-ups and include a wide variety of technologies, such as computer science, mechanical engineering, and consumer products. In addition to patent litigation matters, Jack provides counsel on intellectual property portfolio management, business objectives, and strategic risk analysis.

Before joining Mintz Levin, Jack practiced as a partner with another law firm in Boston.

Representative Matters

  • Represented leading sporting goods manufacturer in connection with defending against claims brought in the Northern District of Illinois for misappropriation of trade secrets and trademark infringement. Navigated mediation and negotiations with insurance carrier to arrive at a favorable settlement and resolution
  • Defended publicly held consumer products company against patent and trademark infringement allegations brought in the District of Minnesota, arguing against and defeating a motion for a preliminary injunction and successfully negotiating dismissal of case soon thereafter
  • Represented advertising firm in connection with false advertising and trademark infringement claims brought in connection with an ongoing comparative advertising campaign. Negotiated a settlement resolving the dispute on advantageous terms
  • Represented individual in enforcing patent against telecommunications industry leader in the District of Massachusetts, successfully defeating motion for summary judgment of invalidity and negotiating license agreement resolving the dispute
  • Defended cranberry products company against allegations of patent infringement brought in the Middle District of Florida relating to a method for processing fruit-based nutraceutical products. Negotiated favorable settlement of case following key depositions of inventor of asserted patent
  • Defended leading provider of speech recognition technology against patent infringement allegations lodged in the Western District of New York. Briefed and argued motions for summary judgment resulting in the invalidation of the asserted patent and dismissal of all claims
  • Represented international pharmaceutical company in successfully defending the validity of patent on blockbuster medication for the treatment of glaucoma. A key member of the trial team that tried and won the case after a two week bench trial in the District of New Jersey
  • Represented patentee in extensive appellate proceedings in connection with assertion of data security patents concerning methods for securing online transactions
  • Working with the Boston Political Asylum/Immigration Representation Project (PAIR), has represented political asylum seekers from diverse areas, including Haiti, China’s Xinjiang region, Liberia and Zimbabwe
