Julian is Managing Partner of the firm’s London office. He is qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney (CPA; 1993) in the UK and as a European Patent Attorney (EPA; 1995), having over 19 years’ experience in the profession.
Julian’s practice is focused on pharmaceuticals and medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, and medical devices, especially novel drug formulations, liposomes and other drug vehicles, new chemical entities, stem cells, protein micro-arrays and biomarkers, bio-informatics, stents, and diagnostic and therapeutic instruments. He has also gained substantial knowledge in other technical areas, including food technology, packaging, product-handling equipment, and aircraft seating systems. Julian acts for a diverse range of clients ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations.
He has extensive experience in proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO), especially the conduct and representation of clients at oral proceedings before the Examining and Opposition Divisions, and before the Boards of Appeal. He also advises clients on the intellectual property (IP) aspects of licences and other technology transfer agreements and has performed a number of IP due diligence reviews for a variety of different clients, including investors as well as parties to prospective licensing and collaboration deals.
Julian is the author of numerous papers and presentations. He is also qualified as a Registered Trade Mark Attorney (1992) and registered as an authorised representative before the European Union’s Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Trade Marks and Designs).
