Health Advisory: New Medicare Provisions to Promote Improvement in the Management of Chronically Ill Patients
12/10/2003 The newly passed Medicare Reform legislation includes a number of relatively obscure provisions that promise to have a significant impact on Medicare beneficiaries and the delivery and financing of health care services. One category of such provisions relates to the expansion of services to chronically ill Medicare beneficiaries. This advisory will introduce you to these provisions, as divided into four areas of focus:
Coverage of new preventive services
Establishment of the Voluntary Chronic Care Improvement Program
Mandating that Medicare managed care establish quality improvement programs for chronically ill beneficiaries
Development of a Chronically Ill Medicare Beneficiary Research, Data, and Demonstration Strategy
