Business Client Alert: ITAR Exemptions for U.S. Institutions of Higher Learning

This client alert concerns a recent amendment to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations; this new rule relates to the transfer by U.S. institutions of higher learning of defense articles only for fundamental research, and to defense services and related unclassified technical data for the assembly and integration of such articles into a scientific, research, or experimental satellite. This alert describes the new exemptions created under the amendment to ITAR for research and articles that are eligible for export and summarizes the conditions for using the exemption.
