Health Advisory: HCFA Begins Clinical Trial Coverage: Investigators May Soon Face More Fraud Claims

This advisory discusses the Health Care Financing Administration's national coverage decision approving coverage of the cost of certain services provided to Medicaid beneficiaries participating in some qualifying clinical trials. One of the reasons for the change in policy is to encourage the participation of seniors in clinical trials. This issue also discusses the indictment of a California allergist for mail fraud in connection with his failure to "personally see" each participant in a clinical trial he conducted.
