Energy and Clean Tech Connections (July 2009)

7/21/2009

In the July edition of Mintz Levin’s Energy and Clean Tech Connections, we’ve gathered recent information from a wide variety of sources in an effort to keep you abreast of what’s new in the world of clean energy. We draw your attention to the latest industry developments, news from Beacon Hill to Capitol Hill, grant opportunities, and upcoming events.

On June 26, the House of Representatives passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act. The bill, which was passed by a seven-vote margin, includes diverse measures, from a national RPS to a carbon cap-and-trade system for emissions allowances, to a mandate that FERC create national rules to guide all ongoing and future regional transmission planning projects.

Greentech Media and Mintz Levin will be hosting a webinar this Wednesday, July 22 entitled “Cash Grants in Lieu of Tax Credits: A Financing Opportunity for Renewable Energy.” Mintz Levin attorneys Travis Blais and Sahir Surmeli will discuss the recent guidance issued by the Treasury Department on eligibility, as well as how to apply for these grants. Register here or see our alert on the same topic.

On Tuesday, July 21, Mintz Levin attorney Richard A. Kanoff, of counsel in the Energy and Clean Technology practice, will chair the New England Clean Energy Council’s (NECEC) Panel on Project Development, and will speak to 25 NECEC fellows on project development strategies, opportunities, and legal challenges.
