In this article, “Federal Compliance Blitz: Enforcement Challenges Ahead for Labs and Pathologists,” published in November 2010 in the Institute of Management & Administration’s (IOMA’s) monthly newsletter, G-2 Compliance Report, Mintz Levin attorney Hope Foster discusses the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and the federal government’s recent efforts to step up its fraud enforcement, and the effects of these developments on health care providers, including clinical laboratories and pathologists. Hope tracks increased government spending on enforcement and explains how the corresponding increase in enforcement efforts under the False Claims Act and the Stark law will necessitate equally rigorous compliance efforts from health care providers.
