The federal health care reform law (commonly known as PPACA) sets forth several new claims procedure standards that plans and insurance issuers must follow. Although the standards are technically effective for plan years beginning on or after September 23, 2010, enforcement grace periods are now available for some of the standards. This alert describes the new standards and the available grace periods, and discusses the steps that plans and issuers should be taking now to meet these new requirements in a timely fashion.
