Mintz Levin and ML Strategies to Sponsor the Event
Former Massachusetts Governor William F. Weld, Member in the Corporate & Securities and Litigation Practices of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., as well a Principal in the firm’s consulting affiliate, ML Strategies, LLC, will be the keynote speaker at the Environmental Business Council of New England’s (EBC) 25th Anniversary Celebration and 22nd Annual EBEE Awards Ceremony. The event, sponsored by Mintz Levin and ML Strategies, will take place on June 18 at the Marriott in Newton, Massachusetts.
Each year, EBC recognizes companies, organizations and individuals for outstanding environmental/energy accomplishments in the promotion of a sustainable, clean environment through the EBEE Awards Celebration. These awards were established by the EBC to encourage companies, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and environmental professionals to serve as models for others to emulate and, in doing so, further the mission and objectives of the EBC.
Governor Weld provides clients with advice and counsel related to domestic and international government strategies and international business transactions. Before joining Mintz Levin and ML Strategies, Governor Weld practiced law in the New York and Washington, DC offices of a large international law firm, where he established an extensive international consulting business in mining, energy, and technology.
He was elected Governor of Massachusetts in 1990 and reelected in 1994 with 71% of the vote. During his terms, he succeeded in reducing taxes and unemployment. His pro-business policies are widely considered to have made a positive impact on the state.
As Governor, he deregulated the electric industry, setting a model for other US states to introduce competition and market mechanisms. He mandated the use of natural gas as fuel for government bus fleets, and was an early proponent of the development of hybrid electric vehicles.
