Mintz Levin Expands Employment, Labor & Benefits Capabilities in Boston

Kate Beattie Rejoins Firm from NTT DATA, Inc.

Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C. has bolstered its Employment, Labor & Benefits practice with the addition of Kate Beattie, who returns to the firm from global IT services company NTT DATA, Inc. where she served as Vice President, Employment & Litigation Counsel.  Ms. Beattie served as a Mintz Levin Associate from 2006-2013 and re-joins as a Member in the Boston office.

Ms. Beattie is experienced in all facets of employment-related litigation, counseling, labor issues and the employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions. She has litigated cases and argued dispositive motions in state and federal courts, and has represented employers before state and federal administrative agencies, in collective bargaining negotiations, and in matters before the National Labor Relations Board. She has counseled employers on federal and state labor and employment issues, and drafted agreements and policies specific to employers and independent contractors, including confidentiality and non-solicitation policies, non-competition agreements, termination letters and separation agreements. She conducts training on nondiscrimination/non-harassment, management best practices and proper interviewing practices.

During her tenure at NTT DATA, Inc., Ms. Beattie provided employment law advice and counseling on workplace investigations, performance management and discipline, terminations, reductions in force, leaves of absence and accommodation of disabilities, wage and hour issues, recruiting, and federal contractor/OFCCP compliance. She audited compliance requirements, managing legal risk under federal, state and local employment laws and regulations; represented the company before administrative agencies and regulatory bodies; managed and resolved employment and commercial disputes; directed and managed outside counsel in employment and commercial litigation; conducted training on employment law compliance and HR best practices; supervised employment counsel; and supported all phases of corporate M&A transactions, including due diligence, transaction documents and post-closing integration. 

Ms. Beattie served as a Student Attorney for the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General; was a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Sydney Hanlon of Dorchester District Court; and worked as Chief of Staff for Massachusetts State Representative Vincent A. Pedone. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature from College of the Holy Cross; an MS in Public Policy from University of Massachusetts, Boston; and a JD from Boston College Law School.
