Paid leave benefits and rights under the Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave Law (MAPFML) are set to begin on January 1, 2021, and there is no indication that the Commonwealth intends to delay this deadline. All employers doing business in Massachusetts should be taking steps now to prepare. Employers who are using the public option should be reviewing existing policies, plans and procedures to ensure that their paid leave practices are coordinated with the public benefits. Employers using the self-funded private option must prepare to file for exemptions, update plans and secure a bond by September 30, 2020, and employers using an insured private option must prepare to file for exemptions and secure an insurance policy by December 31, 2020. Self-funded employers will also need to arrange for claims administration services. Please join us for a webinar discussing what actions employers need to take now to comply with the MAPFML.
