Alec practices in all areas of complex litigation, including fiduciary matters, insurance and reinsurance, and corporate governance. Alec also routinely advises clients regarding compliance with state and federal regulations.
Alec has experience litigating disputes between shareholders of closely-held corporations and providing advice regarding corporate governance to directors and officers of public and private corporations.
Alec also has experience working on a variety of complex coverage issues involving directors and officers. He has co-authored several articles and client advisories regarding developments in the law pertaining to insurance and reinsurance, including the Director and Officer Liability Insurance Chapter of the American Bar Association Annual Review of Developments in Business and Corporate Litigation, and is currently pursuing a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
Alec has experience litigating disputes at trial and on appeal. In 2009 and 2010, he participated in Mintz Levin’s fellowship program, which allowed him to practice as an assistant district attorney for Suffolk County. During the course of the year, Alec took almost a dozen cases to trial for offenses ranging from indecent assault and battery to operating under the influence of alcohol.
While participating in the fellowship program, Alec authored several appeals vital to the prosecution and sentencing of sex offenders, including, Commonwealth v. Maker, SJC-10761, 2011 WL 711566 (Mar. 3, 2011), which he successfully argued before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
Alec has an active pro bono practice, focusing primarily on survivors of sex trafficking and domestic violence. He has successfully represented a victim of sex trafficking to vacate criminal convictions arising from the period when she was victimized and dismiss the charges against her. He is also engaged in the representation of a foreign non-immigrant juvenile exploited by human traffickers. Alec also represents victims of domestic violence through Mintz Levin’s Domestic Violence Project.
During law school, he was the news editor of the Virginia Law Weekly, and participated in the National Moot Court and Lile Moot Court competitions.
