Israel Connect
Legal Insight for Success in the US Market
Rosh Hashanah 2016
Welcome to the fall issue of Israel Connect, delivering insights and news for Israeli innovators pursuing opportunities in the US marketplace.
In this issue, we are very pleased to introduce you — if you aren’t already acquainted — to the new Chair of our Mintz Levin Israel Practice, Ran Zioni. Ran practices out of the firm’s Washington, DC office and has many close ties to Israel’s business and legal community. He practiced law in Israel for many years and travels there frequently to meet with clients. He represents many growing and later-stage companies in mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, private equity financing, technical licensing, and outsourcing transactions.
We would also like to take this opportunity to unveil our new Israel Practice Portal, providing case studies, profiles of our team’s attorneys, and additional resources to help you make the most of our services.
During our travels to Israel, we have been honored to develop relationships with many remarkable Israeli business leaders and innovators. As continuing members of Mintz Levin’s Israel Practice team, we plan to continue to deepen and expand our connections.
Let’s stay in touch.

The summer of 2016 saw a flood of new medical device-related guidance documents coming out of FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). Some of these draft guidance documents, such as those addressing device modifications and the 510(k) process, have been long-awaited and are broad in scope, applying to all or a wide swath of the medical device market. However, other recent Agency guidance has been narrowly focused on issues related to the operationalization of so-called precision medicine goals (i.e., “giving the right treatment, to the right patient, at the right time”).

Robots are everywhere. Health care, logistics, manufacturing, and other critical areas of the economy are being redefined by the robotics and artificial intelligence advances of today’s technology entrepreneurs. With this explosion, we are seeing an extraordinary growth in private investment in robotics companies. According to research firm CB Insights, VC investments in robotics more than doubled in 2015 to $587 million, excluding drones. In addition to increased investment, we are also seeing a flourishing of M&A transactions in the robotics space.
