Award Winners Seeds of Pride Chapter 11 Martha Koster was awarded the prestigious Victor Garo Award for Pro Bono Service from Boston University Law School for her extensive pro bono work over the years. Susan Cohen was honored with one of the 40 Women of Justice Awards by the Women’s Bar Association, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, and the Massachusetts Association of Women Lawyers for her longstanding commitment to human rights advocacy. Michael Day was selected by the Boston Bar Association to participate in its year-long Public Interest Leadership Program. Marianne Staniunas was awarded the Attorney of the Year award from the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation Project for her tireless efforts on behalf of political asylum seekers. The Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) awarded Mintz Levin its Excellence in Pro Bono Award in March for the firm’s longstanding pro bono support. In 2001, Mintz Levin became the first law firm in the nation to partner with MLP to accept case referrals and provide other legal support to MLP and its clients. From 2001 to 2008, Mintz Levin has worked on nearly 50 cases for MLP and provided policy research and other support for MLP’s ongoing work. In June, Mintz Levin received the first-ever “You Matter” Award from pro bono partner the Elizabeth Stone House (a domestic violence shelter) in recognition of the firm’s longstanding commitment to the Stone House over the past 18 years.
