Prologue There are as many reasons why lawyers choose to work for the public good as there are lawyers who do so. Some serve with dedication in legal aid offices or in government, and others find time, apart from their work in-house or in law firms, to serve people who need help. Some of us are fueled by a lifelong passion for a cause or against an injustice, and others are inspired by the clients they meet when they first volunteer their knowledge and their time. Along the way, we often find encouragement and validation in these efforts. Martha Koster, a litigation member, spoke eloquently about this to students at Boston University Law School this year when receiving the Victor Garo Award for her extensive pro bono work over the years.
