The Mintz Levin 2008 Pro Bono Report transaction that resulted in the financing and construction of its major residential building in the late 1980s. The firm’s pro bono commitment to the Stone House and domestic violence programs in general grew considerably under firm leader- ship in the mid-1990s. In addition to pro bono work, staff at the firm have organized 13 successful charity auctions, run holiday events for the children and women of the Stone House, arranged back-to-school backpack drives, and participated in the organization’s “Wilderness Heals” hikes. Mintz Levin was recognized by the Mississippi Center for Justice for advancing recovery and ensuring fairness in the wake of Hurricane Katrina at the Mississippi on the Potomac Reception in June in Washington, D.C. Mintz Levin was recognized for its corporate philanthropy by the Boston Business Journal in September. The firm honored the following attorneys at its annual Pro Bono Awards Reception:  Narges Kakalia, winner of the Annual Pro Bono Award, for her exceptional work successfully advocating for her political asylum client and for her extensive pro bono efforts in the New York office. Fernando Laguarda, winner of the Pro Bono Lifetime Achievement Award, for his significant contributions to the pro bono program throughout the years.
