33 The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) recognized Mintz Pro Bono Chair Sue Finegan for her long-standing commitment to pro bono legal services in Massachusetts. LSC cited Sue’s work with the Volunteer Lawyers Project and her role in founding the Access to Justice Fellows Program, calling her a “tireless and innovative advocate for low-income people throughout Massachusetts.” The Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) awarded Sue Finegan the Yvette C. Mendez Award in 2017 for her dedication to the creation and success of the Pro Bono Appellate Project. The honor, which has been awarded only four times in the past 15 years, recognizes an attorney or project that has made an extraordinary contribution to furthering equal access to justice. On behalf of Mintz, Emma Follansbee and Hana Sandev received the Associates Fund Drive’s Outstanding Firm Commitment Award from Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS), which recognizes a firm that prioritizes legal aid at all levels, from senior attorneys to associates to staff. Hana and Emma led an effort that raised $20,130, including a matching contribution by Mintz, to support the vital work of GBLS. The New England Legal Foundation (NELF) honored Brent Henry with the John G.L. Cabot Award. The award is given to an individual whose work reflects a steadfast commitment to the advancement of free enterprise principles in the community, both in public discourse and in courtrooms. Brent was given this award not only for his more than 30 years of industry experience in advising clients on complex business, legal, and regulatory issues, including through his role as the vice president and general counsel of Partners HealthCare, but also for his dedication to the community. Brent has been active in a number of nonprofit boards throughout his career, including the Public Welfare Foundation, the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission, the Massachusetts Equal Justice Fund Inc. (as president), and Princeton University (as vice chair). The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) recognized Will Hill with the Distinguished Service Award, the most prestigious volunteer award given by the organization. The honor recognizes AMC volunteers who have contributed outstand- ing efforts to the mission of the club for a sustained period of time, highlighting long-term commitment to enhancing and sustaining the club’s conservation, education, and recreation efforts. Will has been a leader in the conservation and outdoor recreation civic and nonprofit community, having served as chairman of the Appalachian Mountain Club’s board of directors and as co-chair of its board of advisors. Crain’s New York Business named Narges Kakalia to the inaugu- ral list of Leading Women Lawyers in New York City. The list recognizes female attorneys who are considered trailblazers in their fields and who “juggle both distinguished careers and exceptional civic and philanthropic activities.” Narges has been committed to promoting social justice and human rights on behalf of unrepresented and marginalized individuals, having won asylum for victims of persecution and torture from many countries. She also manages the pro bono practice of the New York office, serves at the vice-chair of the board of Womankind, and is a mentor for other female litigators. The Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK) honored Mintz and Administrative and Community Service Coordinator Jennifer Nelson at its annual meeting in recogni- tion of Jennifer’s and the firm’s years of support of ATASK. The organization recognized several Mintz initiatives that Jennifer has championed, such as programs to collect back-to-school backpacks and supplies and Christmas gift donations for children impacted by violence, as well as Mintz’s sponsorship of the ATASK Gala. Boston Magazine named Mintz Chairman Bob Popeo as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Boston. The list, which ranked Mr. Popeo as the 14th overall most influential individual, comprises those who have been most influential in shaping the city of Boston. In addition to his impressive career accomplishments, Mr. Popeo is also committed to the community, including through his service on numerous boards of nonprofit organizations. The Bar Association of San Francisco selected former Mintz attorney Matthew Show as an Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service for his work advising and representing low-income clients through the bar association’s Justice & Diversity Center.
