DOJ Sends Warning in Gender Care Provider Subpoenas
Insights from Health Law Practice Chair and Health Care Enforcement Defense Practice Co-Chair Karen Lovitch were included in a Law360 article discussing federal subpoenas issued to physicians involved in providing gender-affirming care for minors. In the article, Karen explains that it's unusual for the government to announce subpoenas and that False Claims Act cases often start under seal with a whistleblower's complaint, rather than a public announcement.
"I think they want to put healthcare providers on notice that if you provide this type of care and bill for it in a way that they believe violates the law, they're going to pursue you,” Karen says.
