Mintz Attorney Joanne S. Hawana to Speak at 2016 TEDCO Entrepreneur Expo

Joanne S. Hawana, Of Counsel for the Health Law Practice of Mintz, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., is participating in two sessions at the 2016 TEDCO Entrepreneur Expo. The event is taking place on November 14 at the Hilton in Baltimore, MD.

TEDCO is Maryland’s go-to source for entrepreneurial support and guidance for start-ups and early-stage companies engaged in bringing innovative ideas to market. TEDCO makes seed/early-stage investments as well as series A/B investments. It is frequently ranked as one of the most active seed/early-stage investors in the nation. The 6th Annual TEDCO Entrepreneur Expo will bring together entrepreneurs, business executives, investors, economic development officials, and legislators to pitch ideas, network, and learn about the innovation happening in Maryland. The annual event serves as an opportunity for entrepreneurs to move their ideas forward, to make new connections, and to get inspired.

In her first session, Ms. Hawana will meet with several life sciences entrepreneurs in a “speed-dating” style activity and provide targeted feedback on their pitches. In her second session, she will speak as a panelist about the pitfalls and the opportunities involved with navigating the FDA regulatory pathway for a medical device business model.

With a practice focused on all types of FDA-regulated products, Ms. Hawana counsels global clients on the business impact of new US federal and state actions that have an impact on foods, drugs, and medical devices, including in vitro diagnostics, lab tests, and mobile medical applications. Her counseling and compliance support work reaches into all aspects of FDA-regulated companies’ operations, from their regulatory strategy during the development stage and the application process, to post-marketing compliance and enforcement-related matters. She works closely with colleagues in the health care reimbursement and compliance areas, as well as intellectual property and corporate lawyers, to ensure that clients are integrating critical regulatory issues wherever necessary to fully support and protect their businesses.
