Mintz Member Terri Shieh-Newton Celebrated as Law Firm Collaborative Leader by Corporate Counsel’s 2020 Women, Influence & Power in Law Awards

Mintz is pleased to share that Member Terri Shieh-Newton, PhD, has been named a law firm honoree in the Collaborative Leadership category of Corporate Counsel’s 2020 Women, Influence & Power in Law Awards, which honor top women lawyers who have made a remarkable difference in the legal profession. The Collaborative Leadership category recognizes women who stand out as working well with others – the “team players.” Dr. Shieh-Newton and fellow general counsel, law firm, and in-house honorees were celebrated at the virtual Women, Influence & Power in Law Forum on October 28.

Dr. Shieh-Newton is a nationally recognized intellectual property attorney and a leading woman in the life sciences industry. With over 20 years of experience, she plays a strategic role for her clients as she guides their patent strategy, portfolio management and investments. Trained as an immunologist at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where she earned a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Dr. Shieh-Newton works with companies of all sizes in a wide range of life sciences and clean technology industries. She also manages and conducts due diligence for companies and investors. She is known for her creative, business-savvy solutions and strategic plans.

Dr. Shieh Newton is also recognized for her longstanding commitment to promoting women and diversity in the legal profession demonstrated through her leadership roles at Mintz and within life sciences organizations in the Bay Area. At Mintz, she serves as Co-Chair of MIATTY, the firm’s affinity group for minority attorneys and senior professionals, and is on the firm’s Diversity Committee. She launched Mintz’s now-annual Bay Area Diversity event, which brings together a diverse group of accomplished women across industry sectors for a panel discussion on various topics. The 2020 Bay Area Diversity event will be held virtually on November 19, and will feature speakers from Breakout Ventures, Roche Molecular Systems, Mammoth Biosciences, and Codiak Biosciences. Additionally, Dr. Shieh Newton sits on the Steering Committee of Mintz’s Women’s Initiative, which drives numerous professional, networking, and social events aimed at supporting and enriching the lives of the firm’s female attorneys.

Notably, Dr. Shieh-Newton was recently honored as one of the 2020 “100 Most Influential Women in Business in the Bay Area” by the San Francisco Business Times for her positive impact on the legal and life sciences industries, as well as her community.
