Mintz’s Jon Welner Re-Elected to Tiburon Town Council

SAN FRANCISCO – Mintz is pleased to announce that Member Jon Welner has been re-elected to the Town Council of the Town of Tiburon, located just north of San Francisco, in Marin County, California. He has been serving on the Council since 2018.

During the past year, Mr. Welner has been serving as the Town’s Mayor, a position appointed by the Council. In that capacity, he has notably led the Town on a series of challenging local policy issues.

“Tiburon is a unique and beautiful community,” he said. “Thanks to the hard work of the Council and staff, and the support of our residents, our Town is now a leader on key issues facing communities like ours across the State: preservation of open space; responding to new State requirements on housing; taking action to reduce climate change; planning for sea-level rise; and ensuring our community is inclusive and celebrates diversity.”

Mr. Welner’s work as Mayor and Councilmember provides an intimate knowledge of local regulatory issues that frequently benefits his clients.

Paul Churchill, the Managing Member of Mintz’ San Francisco office and Co-chair of the firm’s real estate practice, noted that, “Jon’s role as a Councilmember and Mayor of Tiburon reflects Mintz’ deep commitment to public service. In addition, it reflects the firm’s deep involvement and understanding of the workings of local government in California. This knowledge benefits our clients in myriad ways.”

Mr. Welner is a leading environmental and land use lawyer at Mintz with over 25 years of experience and is Co-lead of the firm’s California Land Use Group. He handles regulatory matters for clients in virtually every area of environmental law, including air, water, hazardous materials, consumer products, traditional and renewable energy, and natural resources. In his land use practice, Mr. Welner assists clients in the review process to obtain and defend entitlements for development. He is often called upon by clients to help address their most challenging land use issues. He represents his clients before regulatory agencies, elected officials, and in the courtroom.

Mr. Welner serves on the advisory board of the Environmental Law Section of the California Lawyers Association and is a member and former chair of the Environmental Law Section of the San Francisco Bar Association (BASF). He previously served as a senior official at the California Natural Resources Agency.

Outside of his practice at Mintz, Mr. Welner has a long track record of public service. Prior to serving on the Council, he served on the Tiburon Planning Commission for six years, including one year as chair. He is a board member and former president of the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center and a former board member of Congregation Rodef Sholom. He serves on the board of the John Gardner Fellowship Association and the advisory board of Stanford-in-Government.
