Sige Gutman, Life Sciences Litigation Practice Chair, was quoted in an IAM article about a global patent litigation case Arbutus v. Moderna surrounding covid vaccine technology.  
 
Sige says, "The patent system is built on trying to figure out where that balance is in incentivizing private industry research and development efforts. Patents are an incentive for encouraging private industry to develop new technologies and invent new things. If you remove that incentive, the calculus in deciding whether to engage in that effort could change."
