Mintz Attorney Jeffrey A. Moerdler Honored by Riverdale Jewish Community Relations Council for Community Service

Jeffrey A. Moerdler, head of Mintz, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.’s Real Estate and Communications practices in New York, has been selected  by  the Riverdale Jewish Community Relations Council to receive its 2013 Community Service Award.  Mr. Moerdler will be honored at the organization’s 28th Annual Legislative Breakfast on October 20 in Bronx, New York. 

Mr. Moerdler is being recognized for his extraordinary work on behalf of Riverdale’s Jewish community including his 27 years of service on the Riverdale Y Board, his past service as President of the Y and his more recent involvement in the Y’s President’s Advisory Council, his work as a Vice President of the Riverdale Jewish Community Council and as the President of The Whitehall, a 440 unit coop in Riverdale, and his commitment to Hatzalah, the largest volunteer ambulance service in the United States, as an Emergency Medical Technician taking 150-200 emergency medical calls per year principally in Riverdale, as a Coordinator (co-president) of the Riverdale Hatzalah chapter and as a member of the Executive Board of the Citywide Hatzalah organization.  Mr. Moerdler was a part of the mutual aid response when Captain Sully Sullenberger landed US Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson River and has six “saves”, four in cardiac arrests and two in chokings, as well as having participated in the delivery of one baby in the field.

Mr. Moerdler has been a general commercial real estate attorney for almost 30 years having represented large national companies, particularly in the high-tech, telecommunications, financial services, health care, supermarket, and oil and gas sectors as well as numerous smaller local clients. His real estate practice is both national and local and includes representation of landlords and tenants in all types of leases; counseling owners and developers in the acquisition, sale, development, and renovation of property; advising lenders and borrowers in commercial loans; and the representation of all parties in real estate litigation.

Mr. Moerdler has also developed a unique specialty practice in the intersection of real estate with technology, communications, and energy issues. He has extensive experience representing landlords, tenants, and communications service providers in the leasing, purchase, sale, and financing of data centers and switch facilities, collocation facilities, radio and television broadcast antennas, distributed and in-building antenna systems, rooftop antennas, and fiber-optic transactions as well as the wiring of buildings for broadband communications access.

Mr. Moerdler is a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Vice Chair of its Audit and Security Committees and its Insurance Working Group and takes an active role as the lead board member on many of its largest real estate transactions at the World Trade Center site.   Mr. Moerdler is recognized as a leading real estate attorney in the 2011-2013 editions of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and has been listed as a New York Super Lawyer for real estate in the New York Times every year since 2006 and in Best Lawyers in America for Real Estate in 2013-14.   He has previously served as a member of the New York State Banking Board, the New York State Financial Control Board and Disciplinary Committee of the Appellate Division, First Department.   He is also a Fellow of the American College of Real Estate Attorneys and a member of the Executive Committee of the Real Property Section of the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Moerdler received his B.A from Columbia College of Columbia University and his J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
