No ‘Slam Dunk Fix’ in HIPAA Privacy Law to Protect Abortion Patients
Mintz Member Dianne Bourque was quoted in Healthcare Dive in an article covering the Biden administration’s efforts to protect reproductive health information in states where abortion is illegal. Dianne explained the role of HIPPA and urged, "It’s really important that everybody proceeds with caution... especially in the face of potential overreaching by enforcement authorities... To comply with HIPAA you have to comply with the bare minimum... Provide what’s asked and not more, otherwise you’ve got a HIPAA problem.”
