Joel concentrates his practice on corporate finance and securities, public and private mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate and commercial law, and corporate governance matters. He has extensive experience leading and supporting domestic and cross-border transactions, private placements, and private equity investments. Additionally, Joel advises clients on regulatory compliance, disclosure obligations, and risk management, and assists with stock exchange listings and related governance requirements.
Prior to working at Mintz, Joel was a corporate and securities lawyer at a Toronto firm, where he structured and negotiated complex M&A transactions and advised on a broad spectrum of corporate and commercial matters.
Joel’s pro bono work includes providing legal advice to startups on a range of business issues as well as to BIPOC-owned and -operated businesses within the basketball community.
Earlier in his career, Joel completed a secondment with the Ontario Securities Commission in its Corporate Finance division. He earned his JD, cum laude, from the University of Ottawa and the Michigan State University College of Law, and a bachelor of commerce from Dalhousie University.
Joel is based in the Toronto office.
