Spencer combines a scientific background in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and structural biology with hands-on patent prosecution experience to help clients across the biotechnology and life sciences sectors protect their innovations. He is adept at translating complex biological discoveries into strategic intellectual property assets.
Prior to joining Mintz, Spencer completed a PhD in chemical, physical, and structural biology at Baylor College of Medicine, where his research focused on protein structure-function relationships, disease mechanisms, and cancer genomics. During an intellectual property internship, he drafted biotechnology patent applications and claims, analyzed USPTO office actions, and helped develop responses to patentability and eligibility rejections.
Spencer also has a BSA in biochemistry, with a minor in business, from the University of Texas at Austin.
