Bond Counsel to MassHousing for over 30 years

Key Facts

  • 25 transactions totaling over $750 million in 2017
  • More than 30 years of service as MassHousing's bond counsel

The Situation

Mintz has served as bond counsel to MassHousing for all their multifamily programs for over 30 years, guiding the agency on financing for strategic housing programs.

The Approach

In 2017 alone, we served as bond counsel to MassHousing in connection with eight bond issues totaling approximately $375 million and four note issues totaling approximately $125 million.

Those transactions took many forms, including publicly offered special obligations under a large parity indenture, general obligation construction loan notes that were both publicly offered and directly placed with local banks in Massachusetts, and special obligation conduit bonds tailored to finance particular rental development projects. In addition, we served as issuer counsel to MassHousing in connection with their Federal Financing Bank (FFB) Participation Certificate Program, issuing over $260 million in FFB participations across 13 transactions.

The Outcome

In 2017, our team advised on 25 transactions totaling over $750 million.
