Leading White Collar Attorney Joins Mintz In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – Mintz is pleased to announce that Marc Axelbaum has joined the firm’s Litigation Practice as a Member in the San Francisco office. He brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously led the Corporate Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice in Northern California and co-led the Litigation – Trusts, Estates and High Net Worth team at his former firm.

Mr. Axelbaum is a versatile litigator who represents U.S. and international clients in criminal, civil, and probate cases as well as in sensitive internal, DOJ, SEC, and regulatory investigations. He has extensive experience handling high-stakes matters for clients across a range of industries, including life sciences, renewable energy, life sciences, health care, technology, financial services, real estate, and construction.

Mr. Axelbaum serves as a go-to resource at all stages of disputes and investigations, regularly conducting internal investigations and helping companies, executives, public officials, and other individuals avoid charges and litigation. When a court dispute or regulatory action is unavoidable, he leverages his knowledge of trials and investigations to resolve and successfully defend cases and regulatory matters. Mr. Axelbaum leads cases in federal and state trial and appellate courts around the country, before arbitration panels, and before regulatory agencies. 

Mr. Axelbaum's accomplishments have been acknowledged by various guides, including Chambers USA: California - Litigation: White-Collar Crime & Government Investigations and Best Lawyers in America: Criminal Defense - White-Collar Law. 

Mr. Axelbaum served on the Criminal Justice Act Panel, appointed by the judges of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to represent indigent defendants in federal criminal cases.

Prior to joining Mintz, Mr. Axelbaum was a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. Earlier, he practiced at a Chambers-ranked criminal defense boutique in San Francisco. 

Earlier in his career, Mr. Axelbaum served as a law clerk for the Honorable Marsha S. Berzon, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the late Honorable Peter K. Leisure of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
