Mintz’s Eóin Beirne Named A Litigation Trailblazer By The National Law Journal

BOSTON- Mintz is pleased to announce that Eóin Beirne, a Member and Co-chair of the firm’s White Collar Defense and Government Investigations Practice, has been named a 2022 Litigation Trailblazer by the National Law Journal (NLJ). Through the various Trailblazers special supplements, the NLJ recognizes movers and shakers in the legal industry who have made an impact in their sector through new types of strategies or innovative court cases.

Mr. Beirne is often at the forefront of the nation’s most-watched cases. Recently, he led a Mintz team, alongside co-counsel Black Srebnick P.A., to secure a full acquittal on all charges against client Amin Khoury, who had been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, honest services fraud, and federal programs bribery. The trial was the final case tied to the nationwide college admissions scandal known as “Operation Varsity Blues,” and the only case out of 57 to end in an acquittal. Every other defendant was convicted following a guilty plea or trial.

In the NLJ, Mr. Beirne says, “Despite the judge’s instructions, jurors tend to believe the government is right, that it has not made a mistake, and the defendant is most likely guilty as the government says. I wanted to fight for the underdog.”

An accomplished white collar defense lawyer, Mr. Beirne resourcefully shepherds individual and corporate clients through government investigations and enforcement proceedings. He represents clients in a wide variety of industries in state and federal courts and before an array of investigative and enforcement bodies. Mr. Beirne routinely represents Boards of Directors or Board committees conducting internal investigations. He counsels clients on a variety of matters including wire and mail fraud, health care fraud, public corruption, insider trading, and violations of the False Claims Act and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

This honor comes on the heels of Mr. Beirne being recognized by Chambers USA: Massachusetts- Litigation: White Collar Crime and Government Investigations, Best Lawyers in America: Criminal Defense: White Collar and Lawdragon’s: 500 Leading Litigators in America.
