In American Banker, Mintz Members Discuss the Banking Business’ Heightened Interest in Renewable Energy

An August 27 article published by American Banker examined a heightened interest in investing in renewable energy from Fifth Third Bancorp, as well as other big banks and regional and community banks. The article included commentary from Mintz Member and Chair of the Project Development & Finance Practice Audrey Louison and Mintz Member Eric Macaux.

In particular, Ms. Louison commented on reasons why renewables are making a lot more sense to banks. “I think that what’s happened here is that as the asset class has become better understood, it’s now become boring, and that’s a good thing in banking,” she said.

Mr. Macaux commented on interest from regional and community banks in lending working capital at earlier stages of a solar development project. “If you’ve got a limited amount of capital to put into the energy sector, it’s an easier play to invest in solar where the learning curve is a little bit shorter,” he said.
