The First Enforcement Decision by California’s Top Privacy Cop: What It Means

Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Co-chair Cynthia Larose published an article in Pratt's Privacy & Cybersecurity Law Report analyzing the California Privacy Protection Agency's first enforcement decision under the California Consumer Privacy Act following an investigation of American Honda Motor Co.

Cynthia writes, "Although the investigation arose from the CPPA’s ongoing review of data privacy practices by connected car manufacturers and other related technologies, there are some important takeaways for every business covered by the CCPA." She goes on to advise businesses to review their rights management platforms, consumer requests and consent mechanisms, and to audit their vendor contracts to ensure compliance with CPPA regulations.
