Mintz Chairman R. Robert Popeo Again Honored Among 100 Most Influential Bostonians by Boston Magazine

Mintz is pleased to share that Member and Chairman R. Robert Popeo has again been recognized by Boston Magazine as among the publication’s Power List: The 100 Most Influential Bostonians. Mr. Popeo was honored in the inaugural magazine edition of Boston’s biggest power brokers 26 years ago and in every edition since – ranking No. 24 in 2021 – alongside fellow movers and shakers from politics, business, health care, sports, and many other areas.

From playing a key role in reforming the Massachusetts court system to his active involvement in a long list of charitable endeavors, Mr. Popeo has been an integral part of the fabric of Boston’s business and civic communities for decades. Boston Magazine noted that Mr. Popeo’s “influence is as strong as ever,” adding that he is “on the legal Mount Rushmore of Boston.”

As Chairman of Mintz and a member of the firm’s Policy Committee, Mr. Popeo is credited with establishing the firm’s Litigation Practice and, in particular, the nationally recognized White Collar Defense & Government Investigations Practice. Across federal, state, and administrative courts and agencies nationwide, he has tried some of the most highly publicized white collar criminal cases in the country. He is highly regarded for his vigorous defense of clients and for his ability to manage grand jury and other governmental investigations to avoid indictments or actions by regulators. Some of his most significant achievements are those that never became public.

Mr. Popeo applies the same dedication and passion to civic matters as he does to his clients. As part of his commitment to the community, he has served on numerous boards of nonprofits. He has also served as an instructor at Boston University Law School and is a frequent lecturer at public company director forums and law school programs.

Over the course of his decorated career, Mr. Popeo has received extensive recognition as a leader in the law from Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, Best Lawyers in America, and more. He has also received nods for his significant contributions to the Greater Boston community. For example, in 2019, he was honored for his longstanding support of East Boston Social Centers, Inc., a nonprofit serving culturally diverse families and individuals of all ages in East Boston and throughout Greater Boston.
