Two Mintz Immigration Attorneys Named To Inaugural Lawdragon 100 Leading Immigration Lawyers List

BOSTON – Mintz is pleased to share that Susan J. Cohen, Founder and Chair Emeritus of the Immigration Practice, and John Quill, Chair of Mintz's Immigration Practice, have been selected for inclusion in the 2023 Lawdragon 100 Leading Immigration Lawyers list. The inaugural guide honors attorneys who aid American businesses in bringing over top talent and families in their dreams of moving to the United States (U.S.).

With over 35 years of experience in the field, Ms. Cohen leads a cutting-edge immigration practice and manages a team of attorneys and immigration specialists. She has received numerous awards for her work in immigration and her contributions to the nation's immigration law, policy, and regulations. In 2020, Ms. Cohen led a Mintz team that assisted in the representation of hundreds of thousands of foreign students in litigation that overturned a controversial and dangerous COVID-related student visa policy implemented by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She also played a pivotal role in obtaining a temporary restraining order on the 2017 Travel Ban, working with the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts and others. Additionally, Ms. Cohen serves as the President of the Board of the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation Project (PAIR), an organization that provides free legal services to asylum seekers and advocates for the rights of detained immigrants. Furthermore, she authored Journeys From There to Here: Stories of Immigrant Trials, Triumphs and Contributions (Greenleaf Publishing/River Grove Press, Nov. 2, 2021), which offers insights into the journeys of 11 immigrants who overcame heart-wrenching trials and tribulations while attempting to establish new lives in the U.S.

With over 25 years of experience, Mr. Quill assists companies and their employees in obtaining various nonimmigrant visas, such as B, E, H, J, L, O, and TN. He is also responsible for managing applications for PERM labor certification, petitions for extraordinary ability, outstanding researchers, and national interest waivers, adjustment of status procedures, consular processing, and naturalization. Mr. Quill has earned a reputation for leveraging legal operations and technology to streamline practices and develop innovative solutions to complex legal and case production challenges. He represents clients across a diverse range of industries, including biotechnology, FinTech, hospitals and health systems, insurance, financial services, retailers, education, consulting, and staffing services.

Honorees are selected through a process that combines journalistic research, robust submissions and vetting by peers. To access the entire 2023 Guide, please click here.
